About David Nicodemus and 30 Years of Building in Ventura County
The Same Contractor Who Builds Your Home Is the One Who Answers Your Call
The Person Behind Every Project
When you hire Nicodemus Construction, you are not hiring a company with layers of project managers, sales reps, and estimators standing between you and the person doing the work. You are hiring David Nicodemus. He answers the phone. He visits your home. He writes the estimate. He manages the build. He is on site when decisions need to be made. And he has been doing this in Southern California for more than three decades.
That is not how most contractors operate, and David knows it. The construction industry is full of firms that sell you on the owner’s experience and then hand you off to someone you’ve never met. We do it differently because David believes the quality of a project is directly tied to the experience and attention of the person managing it. One point of contact, one person accountable, from the day you sign the contract to the day we hand you the keys.
How Nicodemus Construction Started
David Nicodemus started building homes in the early 1990s. What began as hands-on carpentry and framing work grew into a full-service general contracting business as David earned his contractor’s license and took on increasingly complex projects. Over the years, the scope expanded from single-room remodels to complete home renovations, custom home construction from the ground up, and large-scale outdoor living projects. But the core of the business never changed: David manages every job personally, the work is done right, and the client knows exactly what things cost before construction begins.
Three decades of building in Ventura County means David has seen every type of project, every type of problem, and every type of surprise that residential construction can produce. Termite damage hidden behind drywall. Unpermitted work from previous owners that has to be corrected before new construction can proceed. Soil conditions that require foundation redesigns. Permit processes that stall because the previous contractor’s plans were incomplete. Experience does not prevent these situations, but it does mean David knows how to handle them efficiently, honestly, and without panic.
What We Build
Nicodemus Construction is a full-service residential general contractor. That means we do not specialize in one narrow trade. We handle complete projects from demolition through finish work, managing every subcontractor, every material delivery, every inspection, and every detail.
Our most requested service is kitchen remodeling, from layout redesign and custom cabinetry through countertops, tile, lighting, and appliance integration. We also complete dozens of bathroom renovations each year, from master bath transformations to guest bath updates and full bathroom additions.
For homeowners who need more space, we build room additions that expand the home’s footprint while maintaining its architectural character. We design and construct accessory dwelling units for rental income, multigenerational living, or home offices. And for clients who want to start from scratch, we provide complete custom home construction from site evaluation through certificate of occupancy.
Outdoor living is another core part of our work. We build custom pools, patios, decks, outdoor kitchens, and complete backyard living environments designed for Southern California’s year-round climate. Many of our clients combine indoor remodeling with outdoor construction to transform their entire property in a single project.
Where We Work
Our office is in Oxnard, and the majority of our projects are within Ventura County. We know this region block by block: the building departments, the soil conditions, the architectural styles, the permit processes, and the neighborhood-specific considerations that affect every project.
We serve homeowners in Oxnard from the beachfront communities of Oxnard Shores and Hollywood Beach to the newer neighborhoods of Riverpark and the Collection. We work throughout the City of Ventura, from downtown bungalows to hillside homes with ocean views.
In Camarillo, we handle projects in established neighborhoods like Mission Oaks and Spanish Hills as well as hillside properties in Camarillo Heights. We also travel to Malibu where coastal commission regulations and fire zone requirements demand a contractor with specialized experience.
For projects along the South Coast, we work in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Goleta, and Carpinteria where architectural review boards and historic preservation standards add complexity that we know how to navigate.
How We Approach Every Project
Every project starts the same way: David visits your home. This is not a sales call. There is no high-pressure pitch, no inflated timeline, no lowball number designed to get you to sign and then make it up in change orders. David looks at the space, listens to what you want, identifies potential issues, and gives you an honest assessment of what the project will involve and what it will cost.
If you decide to move forward, we develop a detailed scope of work and a line-item estimate. You will see exactly what you are paying for: every material, every trade, every phase. This transparency is not a marketing promise. It is how we operate on every single project, because surprises at the end of a build destroy trust, and trust is how we’ve built this business for 30 years.
During construction, David manages the job personally. He coordinates subcontractors, schedules inspections, makes on-site decisions, and communicates with you directly. If something comes up that was not in the original scope, he discusses it with you before any additional work is done. You always know where the project stands, what it costs, and what comes next.
Why Our Clients Come Back
The highest compliment in contracting is a repeat client. It means the work held up, the experience was good, and the client trusts you enough to invite you back into their home. A significant portion of our business comes from homeowners who hired us for a kitchen remodel and then came back for a bathroom renovation. Or started with a room addition and later asked us to build a pool. Or referred us to a neighbor, a family member, or a coworker.
That does not happen by accident. It happens because we deliver what we promise, at the price we quoted, on the timeline we set. It happens because David treats every home like it matters, because it does. And it happens because when something goes wrong, and something always does in construction, we own it, fix it, and move on without excuses.
Licensed, Insured, and Accountable
Nicodemus Construction and Development Inc. is a fully licensed general contractor in the State of California. We carry general liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage on every project. We pull permits for all work that requires them, we schedule and pass inspections, and we build to code. These are not selling points. They are minimum requirements for doing this work legally and responsibly, and you would be surprised how many contractors skip them.
If you are comparing contractors, ask every one of them for their license number, proof of insurance, and a list of permits they’ve pulled in your city in the last two years. Then ask who will actually manage your project day to day. The answers will tell you everything you need to know.
Let’s Talk About Your Project
Whether you are planning a kitchen remodel, a bathroom renovation, a room addition, an ADU, a custom home, or an outdoor living transformation, the first step is a conversation with David. No obligation, no pressure, no sales team. Just a licensed contractor with 30 years of experience who will look at your space and tell you the truth about what’s possible, what it costs, and how long it takes.
